Full name (+titles, if any): Riona (Tabris; willing to change surname in order to keep from conflicting with any other altered/imported City Elf Wardens lmao)
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Race: Elf
Nationality: Ferelden
Class/Occupation: Two-handed warrior, sometimes for hire
Background:
The only child of an indulgent father and a steel-spined mother, Riona spent half of her early life running barefoot through the alienage with other children, and the other half learning how to wield illegal weapons from her mother. She and a dozen other alienage girls built their strength in abandoned warehouses and back alleys all across the walled off part of the city, training under Riona's mother and whoever she could find willing to share their knowledge. After her mother's death, the girls took to their training into their own hands and continued to improve themselves, eventually forming something akin to a girl gang after a handful of them discovered their own power when they chased out a shem looking to find a girl alone on the streets one night.
Subsequently, they began to act almost as an unofficial underground militia, taking care not to kill anyone who would be missed and looking out for their people. Most of the elders frowned and fussed, believing it to be an invitation for blood to start running as soon as the shems take a good look, but violence against the elves visibly dropped off once the girls began to truly take their roles seriously, and children of the alienage idolized them. Within the gang, there were no ranks and no true officers, they were simply a band of young women with illegal blades and a fierce passion for protecting what was theirs, but as daughter of the woman who gave them the tools to build the community, Riona held a nominally important position as one to whom the girls would often look for suggestions or plans.
Unfortunately, the elders were eventually proven right, when the local arl's son ambushed a local group wedding and abducted the women of the party, including Riona. What happened in the estate is hard to determine truthfully, because it has a tendency to be exaggerated on either side -- but by the end of it, the women of the alienage had emerged from the gates with stolen weapons and blood on the hems of their gowns, Riona at their lead, covered in gore and snarling her vengeance earned.
When the guards came, she stood up and took full glorious responsibility, declaring when the guardcaptain expressed skepticism that one elf could have cause so much carnage that they were welcome to try for a demonstration. In the subsequent attempt to arrest her, Riona killed four guards before stealing the captain's sword and disappearing into the maze of alleys behind the alienage flats. The only thing that spared the alienage an immediate purge to flush her out was that she was quickly spotted at the front gates of the city, fleeing into the woods.
Her state as a fugitive now ensured, Riona acts as as a sword for hire when she needs to, sometimes alone but more often gathering up a temporary handful of companions to take on a job or two, rarely sticking to one place too long -- but her actions in her alienage gained some traction among elves, and she often finds welcome among sympathetic fellows in other alienages, allowing her to sometimes lay down her weapon and experience a brief respite before moving on.
Personality:
Riona is very aware of her status as alienage gutterscum and fully willing to use it if it works for her, seeing no reason to try and act better than she is -- after all, being from the wealthiest family in the alienage is a lot like being the richest rat in the scrap heap: what good does it really do you? Not quite professional enough to be considered a mercenary, she nevertheless is perfectly willing to enact violence in order to earn -- or steal -- some coin, but she specifically targets those she feels are either "deserving" or who can spare the money with little inconvenience to themselves. Her selfishness is mostly for show -- most of the gold she and rest of the gang aquire always seems to find itself in the pockets of local merchants and tradespeople, but then, why would a knife-ear spend their money anywhere else, right?
Behind her bluster and her self-confessed greed, Riona is protective and caring, practicing mercy on people who can't help their circumstances and enacting swift, brutal justice on those who know better. She has a sharp tongue and the enthusiastic willingness to back up her own words, and her stubbornness and refusal to forgive has caused her no small trouble, but unless angered directly her temper is generally aimed at those who abuse people below them, and her passion and easy cheer means among peers she's quicker to smile than frown.
She harbors a strong suspicion and dislike for humans as a general rule, but not blindly and not without the concession that humans are also capable of suffering under their own kind -- she won't turn down a job from someone for being human, only for being an ass, but she will shamelessly prioritize fellow elves above humans regardless. The Dalish don't impress her, particularly the "last of the Elvhen" bile, but she respects their intentions and the ones that acknowledge city elves are their own culture. Dwarves fascinate her, and she's been run out of more than a few markets after pestering stall owners with questions and attempts to make conversation. In her line of work, she runs across the occasional Qunari -- Vashoth and Tal-Vashoth Qunari are met with enthusiastic requests to spar, and Qun-compliant Qunari are given respectful politeness; she may not have any interest in the Qun, but she can fully understand the comfort and strength found in having a purpose among your kind.
Perhaps surprisingly, Riona is an unabashed supporter of mage freedom -- when questioned, she often raises a brow and invites the asker to consider why she, a city elf, might sympathize with people who are walled away from the world and told of their worthlessness, but used frequently in war and in commerce, for being guilty of something like an elf wielding a sword, a weapon used to protect and defend as easily as to kill.

just using this because i had it already written, no intention of playing with canon charaters lmao
Lothering is too small to have an alienage, but it does have a tavern and a chantry, both of which are bound to be needing some help in exchange for what little can be spared. At a time like this, Riona isn't going to be picky, and she isn't going to be greedy either, not when she's seen how the sisters are scraping at what they've got and actually trying to serve the people with it. Scouring the chanter’s board for something she can put her sword to before they move on, Riona marks a few places on her map before nodding silently to the chanter beside it and turning to her new -- and honestly somewhat useless -- human companions.
Immediately aware of the attention, Morrigan crosses her arms, cocks her hip, and opens her mouth. Even knowing already where Morrigan is going to take this, Riona can't cut her off fast enough before she starts to complain about the wasted time, demanding to know why they need to wander around this dump returning lost trinkets and exterminating woodland pests, and as soon as she takes a breath to continue her tirade Riona asks her casually, “How much money do you have on you right now?”
Morrigan pauses, looking startled at having been so brusquely spoken over, says, "Excuse me?"
"Money,” Riona says, "cash. Sovereigns. Gold – well, silver, I'm not expecting miracles here."
There’s a brief silence before Morrigan's mouth twists, and she says tartly, "I have nothing."
"And according to this board, I can get us fifty silver for punching a couple of bears until they stop eating people. I really like having money, more than I like having nothing, and you know what earns absolutely nothing?" Here Riona spreads her gloved hands wide in front of her. "Complaining about how I choose to earn us money."
She makes sure Morrigan isn't looking when she gives a shem girl in the Chantry a handful of hard-earned coins in exchange for her family's sword, though.
